Observing brain networks in patients with epilepsy
Observational Study of the Structural-functional Connectome in Patients With Epilepsy

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the structural and functional connectome of patients diagnosed with epilepsy. By analyzing brain networks through MRI scans and resting state EEG recordings, the study seeks to understand how these networks differ in individuals with focal or generalized epilepsy compared to healthy controls. The research focuses on the concept of the epileptogenic network, moving beyond traditional views of epilepsy that centered solely on the epileptogenic zone. Participants will undergo neuropsychological assessments to further explore the relationship between brain connectivity and epilepsy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 6 to 65 with a confirmed diagnosis of focal or generalized epilepsy.
Not a fit: Patients with vascular causes or high-grade tumors causing epilepsy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance our understanding of epilepsy and lead to improved diagnostic and treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in exploring brain networks in epilepsy, indicating that this approach is promising and relevant.
