What this trial studies
This observational cohort study aims to explore how metabolic disorders such as obesity and gestational diabetes during pregnancy influence both maternal and fetal health in the short and long term. It will assess various factors including pregnancy outcomes, fetal growth, newborn metabolism, breast milk composition, and maternal health post-delivery. Pregnant women will participate in multiple clinic visits throughout their pregnancy and shortly after childbirth to undergo physical examinations and assessments. The study seeks to identify potential preventive measures that could mitigate adverse health trajectories for both mothers and their children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women who are less than 14 weeks gestation and are over 18 years old.
Not a fit: Patients who are beyond 14 weeks of gestation or have fetal genetic anomalies will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved health outcomes for mothers and their children by identifying effective interventions during pregnancy.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in understanding the impact of maternal health on pregnancy outcomes, making this approach both relevant and potentially impactful.
