What this trial studies
This observational cohort study aims to collect and analyze data from patients undergoing liver transplantation utilizing hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion at the Medical University of Vienna. The study will prospectively record patient outcomes to evaluate both short- and long-term results associated with this innovative preservation technique. By focusing on a specific patient population, the study seeks to enhance understanding of the efficacy and safety of this method in liver transplantation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are scheduled for liver transplantation using hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, those receiving partial grafts, or individuals with compromised anatomical integrity of the liver will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve outcomes for patients undergoing liver transplantation by optimizing organ preservation techniques.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is being explored, the specific application of hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion in liver transplantation is still under investigation, indicating a novel area of research.
