What this trial studies

This observational cohort aims to define systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in Saudi Arabia, a region with unique genetic factors due to high consanguinity. The study will follow an open cohort design to gather comprehensive data on disease presentation, progression, and outcomes. By collecting detailed immunological, molecular, genetic, and microbiome information, the study seeks to address the gaps in understanding SLE in this population, which has been primarily based on retrospective analyses. This prospective approach is expected to yield more reliable and relevant data for SLE management.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult patients over 18 years old who meet established classification criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus.

Not a fit: Patients who do not fulfill the classification criteria for systemic lupus erythematosus will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of systemic lupus erythematosus in Saudi Arabian patients.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been many retrospective studies on SLE, this prospective cohort approach is novel and has not been previously implemented in Saudi Arabia.
