What this trial studies

This study examines the impact of active nutritional support on the quality of life for patients with head and neck cancer who are receiving radiotherapy. It focuses on addressing the nutritional challenges faced by these patients, particularly those suffering from radiation-induced oral mucositis, which can lead to severe dysphagia and malnutrition. The intervention involves providing high-protein nutritional supplements to improve dietary intake and overall well-being during treatment. The study aims to assess how these nutritional interventions can mitigate the side effects of radiotherapy and enhance patients' quality of life.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old who have newly diagnosed, histologically proven head and neck cancer and are receiving radiotherapy.

Not a fit: Patients with advanced or metastatic head and neck cancer or those treated with chemotherapy only may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve the quality of life for head and neck cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy by alleviating malnutrition and related symptoms.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on nutritional support in cancer care, this specific approach focusing on head and neck cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy is relatively novel.
