What this trial studies

This is a cross-sectional observational study of competitive HYROX athletes who competed in at least one official event in the past 24 months. Data were collected primarily via validated online questionnaires, including a Short Food Frequency Questionnaire (SFFFQ), a 20-item supplement use survey, the Abbreviated Nutrition for Sport Knowledge Questionnaire (A-NSKQ), the EAT-26, and the Figure Rating Scale (FRS). The protocol characterizes dietary intake, supplementation patterns, nutritional knowledge, eating behaviours, and anthropometric/body composition features and links these metrics to performance-related characteristics. The study was led by the University of Alicante with collaboration from the University of Stirling.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Competitive HYROX athletes aged 18 or older who have participated in at least one official HYROX competition in the past 24 months and who compete in the Pro or Open categories.

Not a fit: Recreational exercisers, athletes under 18, those who have not competed in an official HYROX event in the past 24 months, or athletes outside the Pro/Open categories are unlikely to benefit directly from these findings.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help HYROX athletes and coaches tailor nutrition and supplement strategies and spot potential risks like disordered eating to improve race performance and safety.

How similar studies have performed: Questionnaire-based nutrition and body composition studies have been informative in other athletic populations, but targeted data on HYROX competitors are limited, making this a relatively novel characterization in this specific sport.
