What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate a novel group-based cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) intervention designed to help autistic young people manage sensory difficulties and related anxiety. Participants will undergo the intervention and complete tasks before and after to assess changes in their sensory experiences, brain responses, and behavioral reactions. The study also seeks to gather qualitative feedback from participants to refine the treatment for future research. Overall, it focuses on both the feasibility of the intervention and its potential effects on sensory processing.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are autistic young people with average verbal/intellectual abilities who are under the care of a local mental health service.
Not a fit: Patients with below-average verbal/intellectual abilities or those currently receiving another psychological intervention may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this therapy could significantly improve sensory processing and reduce anxiety in autistic youth.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific intervention is novel and aims to provide new insights into sensory processing in autism.
