What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates two innovative techniques for managing chronic unilateral lumbar radicular pain: the Transgrade (TG) epidural injection and the Interlaminar (IL) epidural steroid injection. The TG technique utilizes a Racz-Coudé needle to access the epidural space at a unique angle, while the IL technique delivers medication through a needle inserted between adjacent vertebrae. Both methods aim to provide relief for patients who have not responded adequately to conventional treatments. The study focuses on patients with a history of persistent pain in one leg accompanied by back pain.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals with a history of persistent unilateral leg pain and back pain for over six months who have not found relief from standard treatments.

Not a fit: Patients who have undergone previous lumbar spinal surgery or have certain medical conditions such as myelopathy or psychiatric disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could offer new, effective treatment options for patients suffering from chronic neuropathic lumbar pain.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific techniques being tested may be novel, similar approaches in managing chronic pain have shown varying degrees of success in other studies.
