What this trial studies
This program aims to develop a novel clinical approach for rehabilitating older adults at risk of falls due to neuro-musculoskeletal disorders. It involves a multidisciplinary team from Université du Québec à Chicoutimi and specialized geriatric services, focusing on optimizing mobility and independence through tailored interventions like OTAGO exercises and conventional therapy. The initiative is part of a larger effort to address the significant public health issue of falls among the aging population in Quebec, where falls lead to high hospitalization rates and mortality. The program will create a clinical profile of patients and implement innovative strategies to enhance their rehabilitation outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are older adults aged 65 and over with neuro-musculoskeletal disorders and a risk of falling.
Not a fit: Patients with severe psychiatric disorders, cancer, or those in palliative care may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the incidence of falls and improve the quality of life for older adults.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar rehabilitation approaches for fall prevention in older adults, indicating potential for this program.
