What this trial studies
This study aims to implement a structured exercise program combined with behavioral counseling for patients hospitalized due to cystic fibrosis exacerbations. Participants will engage in supervised exercise six days a week, incorporating both aerobic and resistance training tailored to their abilities. The program is designed to promote long-term adherence to physical activity by initiating exercise during a period of heightened awareness of their health decline. The approach includes monitoring heart rate and perceived exertion to ensure safety and effectiveness.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with a confirmed diagnosis of cystic fibrosis who are currently experiencing a pulmonary exacerbation and are hospitalized.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently exercising more than 60 minutes per week or have recent severe pulmonary complications may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could improve lung function and overall health outcomes for cystic fibrosis patients.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown that structured exercise can be beneficial for patients with chronic respiratory conditions.
