What this trial studies

This is a single-center observational project at CHU de Nice using routine peripheral nerve ultrasound exams performed between December 2025 and April 2026. It includes adults aged 18–70 with a genetically confirmed diagnosis of Friedreich ataxia who are followed at the Neurogenetics Competence Centre. Sonographers record nerve size and appearance in the upper and lower limbs and compare findings to expected normal ranges. No experimental treatments are given; the aim is to better describe peripheral nerve involvement to inform clinical care and future research.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18–70 with genetically confirmed Friedreich ataxia who are followed at the Neurogenetics Competence Centre, CHU Nice, and who underwent peripheral nerve ultrasound between December 2025 and April 2026.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 or over 70, those without genetic confirmation, those not followed at CHU Nice, or those without available peripheral nerve ultrasound data would not be eligible and are unlikely to benefit from this project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could improve recognition and monitoring of peripheral nerve involvement in Friedreich ataxia and help guide clinical follow-up and future trials.

How similar studies have performed: Previous ultrasound work has reported nerve enlargement in some people with Friedreich ataxia, so this approach builds on emerging but still limited evidence.
