What this trial studies

This observational cross-sectional study uses a questionnaire to record self-reported musculoskeletal symptoms and measure knowledge of ergonomic practices among postgraduate dentistry students and specialist dentists. Participants are dentists aged 25–60 with a stable professional career, while those with systemic musculoskeletal diseases, major trauma, or who are retired or undergraduate students are excluded. Data will be analyzed to compare prevalence of symptoms and ergonomics knowledge across different dental specialties and training stages. The study frames a null hypothesis that there is no difference in prevalence or ergonomics knowledge between specialties.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are practicing dentists aged 25–60 who are in postgraduate specialty training or have completed specialist training and have a stable professional career.

Not a fit: People who are retired, undergraduate students, or who have systemic conditions causing permanent musculoskeletal disability (like rheumatoid arthritis or fibromyalgia) are unlikely to benefit from this observational project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could identify gaps in ergonomics knowledge and high-risk groups so that targeted training or workplace changes can reduce work-related musculoskeletal problems in dentists.

How similar studies have performed: Previous surveys consistently report high rates of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in dentists and some intervention studies suggest ergonomics training can reduce symptoms, so the approach builds on established findings.
