What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a Multicomponent Exercise Program with Virtual Reality (MEP-VR) compared to a standard Multicomponent Exercise Program (MEP-only) and usual care in improving functional and cognitive outcomes in hospitalized older adults. Participants aged 75 and older will be randomly assigned to one of three groups, with the intervention taking place over four consecutive days. The study will assess whether the addition of virtual reality enhances the benefits of physical exercise and cognitive stimulation for this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are hospitalized adults aged 75 years or older who can walk and cooperate, with a Barthel Index score of at least 60.

Not a fit: Patients with severe dementia, terminal illness, or clinical instability may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve the functional and cognitive health of hospitalized older adults, potentially reducing the risk of long-term decline.

How similar studies have performed: While multicomponent exercise programs have shown benefits, the specific use of virtual reality in this context is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
