What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the 24-hour physical activity levels of older adults (65+) admitted to a geriatric ward in Denmark. It employs a Hybrid Type I design, where an observational cohort study will first evaluate patient activity over a week, followed by the implementation of a staff-facing screen to monitor real-time activity. The study will also validate the Danish version of the Acute Care Mobility Assessment and gather demographic and mobility-related data from participants. The goal is to enhance staff awareness and promote discussions about physical activity during hospitalization.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are older adults aged 65 and above who are able to walk and provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients who are terminally ill, in isolation, or expected to be discharged within 24 hours may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved physical activity levels among hospitalized older adults, enhancing their recovery and overall health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies have shown that monitoring and promoting physical activity in hospitalized patients can lead to positive outcomes.
