What this trial studies
This project aims to address the gap in education for high-risk pregnant women regarding Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) by adapting an existing mobile technology platform. The platform will provide effective caregiving strategies for mothers to learn while they are pregnant, enhancing maternal involvement with their newborns. The study will involve semi-structured interviews with experts and mothers to gather insights that will inform the adaptation of the mobile tool. Following this, the usability, acceptability, and feasibility of the tool will be assessed in a small randomized controlled analog trial.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women in their third trimester who are currently undergoing opioid agonist treatment for opioid use disorder.
Not a fit: Patients who are not currently in treatment for opioid use disorder or those with severe mental health issues may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve maternal-newborn interactions and outcomes for infants at risk of NAS.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on mobile tools for NAS education, similar interventions in maternal health have shown promise in improving outcomes.
