What this trial studies

This project aims to develop and implement a multi-component intervention utilizing mobile health technology to enhance HIV self-management and decrease substance use among emerging adults living with HIV in Zambia. The intervention includes Mobile Healthy Choices (mHC) and Motivational Text Messaging (MTM) tailored for individuals aged 18 to 24 who demonstrate low medication adherence and risky alcohol use. By leveraging mobile technology, the study seeks to provide accessible support and resources to improve health outcomes in this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Zambian emerging adults aged 18 to 24 who are living with HIV and exhibit low medication adherence and problematic alcohol use.

Not a fit: Patients who are not living with HIV or those with serious cognitive or psychiatric issues that hinder informed consent may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve medication adherence and overall health management for young adults living with HIV.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing mobile health interventions for HIV management have shown promise, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially effective.
