What this trial studies
This project aims to develop a culturally tailored mobile health application designed to enhance participation among Black individuals diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in discussions about clinical trials. By identifying barriers to enrollment and addressing the specific communication and education needs of this population, the study seeks to promote greater engagement with healthcare teams. The intervention includes semistructured interviews to gather feedback and refine the app's content and functionality. The ultimate goal is to improve clinical trial participation rates among Black patients, who face significant disparities in outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Black individuals aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and are English-speaking.
Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as Black or those who are unable to participate in interviews due to language barriers or cognitive impairments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this initiative could lead to increased participation of Black patients in clinical trials, ultimately improving treatment options and outcomes for this population.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using culturally tailored mobile applications is gaining traction, this specific focus on Black pancreatic cancer patients is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
