What this trial studies

This pilot trial aims to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a mobile app called mPRISM, designed to assist adolescents and young adults with cancer in managing psychosocial symptoms. The app incorporates evidence-based strategies for stress management, goal-setting, and mindfulness. Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive the app immediately or be placed on a waitlist, allowing for a comparison of outcomes. The study focuses on improving quality of life and mental health among this vulnerable population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents and young adults aged 12-25 who have been diagnosed with a new malignancy and are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Not a fit: Patients with a cancer diagnosis older than 12 months or those receiving only surgical treatment may not benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly enhance the mental health and quality of life for young cancer patients.

How similar studies have performed: While mobile health interventions for psychosocial support are emerging, this specific approach using the mPRISM app is novel and has not been extensively tested.
