What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates a child-friendly mobile application designed to provide interactive education for pediatric patients and their caregivers about tonsillectomy. The randomized controlled trial compares the effects of using the 'Ready for Tonsillectomy' app against standard care materials on preoperative anxiety and other patient-centered outcomes. Families in the intervention group will engage with the app during the surgical preparation and recovery phases, while the control group will receive traditional educational materials. Key outcomes include changes in preoperative anxiety, patient confidence, caregiver satisfaction, and postoperative call volumes to the clinic.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are pediatric patients aged 5-13 years scheduled for a tonsillectomy, along with their caregivers.
Not a fit: Patients who do not speak English or Spanish, lack access to a mobile device, or cannot provide consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce preoperative anxiety in children and improve overall satisfaction for both patients and caregivers.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with mobile health interventions in reducing anxiety and improving patient education, suggesting this approach is promising.
