What this trial studies
This multi-site, mixed-methods randomized controlled study will enroll 160 Chinese school teachers and randomize them to an 8-week MBCT-L mindfulness program or an active positive education training comparator. Quantitative measures will track mental wellbeing, burnout, and teaching-related outcomes, while qualitative interviews will explore mechanisms by which mindfulness practice may produce benefits. Data collection will include standardized questionnaires and participant interviews across collaborating universities. The approach aims to measure both effect size and pathways of change in teacher wellbeing and classroom performance.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are current school teachers aged 21–65 who can commit to the 8-week course, have not previously completed a related mindfulness program, and do not have active suicidal risk or unstable mental health.
Not a fit: Teachers with prior participation in similar mindfulness programs, those with active serious mental-health instability or suicidal risk, or those unable to attend or commit to the course schedule are unlikely to benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could reduce teacher stress and burnout and improve classroom teaching quality, benefiting both teachers and students.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies of mindfulness programs for educators have shown promising reductions in stress and burnout, though findings and mechanisms are still being refined.
