What this trial studies
This trial investigates the effects of a mindfulness-based intervention program called Mindfulness-based Peak Performance (MBPP) on endurance performance and mental attributes in athletes. It employs a randomized controlled design with three groups: one receiving MBPP, another practicing self-talk, and a wait-list control group. The study aims to assess improvements in performance under pressure and relevant psychological skills over an 8-week period. By integrating insights from sport psychology, sports training, and cognitive neuroscience, the trial seeks to provide a rigorous evaluation of mindfulness in sports.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are athletes aged 18 to 30 with proficiency in middle-long running, marathon, or triathlon, who have no prior experience in mindfulness training.
Not a fit: Patients with diagnosed cognitive or major psychiatric issues, or those with significant physical health problems, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance athletes' performance and mental resilience under competitive pressure.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results for mindfulness interventions in sports, but this trial aims to provide more rigorous evidence through its controlled design.
