What this trial studies
This study evaluates the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of a group-based mindfulness intervention specifically designed for first-year college students diagnosed with ADHD. The intervention, known as Mindful Awareness Practices (MAPs), will be adapted for this population and delivered in university counseling centers. Participants will be randomized into either the MAPs program or standard support services provided by their universities. The study aims to gather data over a two-year period to assess the impact of mindfulness on ADHD symptoms and overall well-being.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are first-semester college students aged 17-25 who have a diagnosis of ADHD.
Not a fit: Patients with severe depression, ongoing substance abuse, or other significant mental health issues may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could provide college students with ADHD effective non-pharmacological strategies to manage their symptoms and improve their academic and personal lives.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results for mindfulness interventions in reducing ADHD symptoms, but this specific adaptation for college students is novel.
