What this trial studies
This project focuses on developing and evaluating a mobile application designed to support African American caregivers of individuals living with HIV/AIDS. The app, named Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction for African American Caregivers (MBSR-AAC), aims to reduce stress by addressing the unique challenges these caregivers face, including stigma and caregiving burdens. The study will enhance the app based on previous research findings and conduct a randomized controlled trial to assess its effectiveness in alleviating caregiver stress. The ultimate goal is to provide an accessible tool that strengthens the caregiver-care recipient relationship and improves overall well-being.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are African American individuals aged 18 or older who are unpaid primary caregivers for someone living with HIV/AIDS.
Not a fit: Patients who are not African American or who do not serve as caregivers for individuals living with HIV/AIDS may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly reduce stress levels among African American caregivers, enhancing their quality of life and caregiving effectiveness.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies on mindfulness-based interventions have shown promise in reducing stress, suggesting that this approach may be effective for the target population as well.
