What this trial studies
This study tests an app-based mindfulness intervention called the Healthy Minds Program (HMP) aimed at preventing anxiety and depression in pre-service teachers during their final year of training. The project focuses on assessing the feasibility, acceptability, and utility of the HMP, while also examining its effects on mental health outcomes and turnover intentions. By involving undergraduate research assistants, the study aims to strengthen the research environment at the University of Alabama and provide insights into scalable mental health solutions for educators. The intervention is particularly timely given the increased mental health concerns among teachers since the pandemic.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pre-service teachers in their final year of training at the University of Alabama.
Not a fit: Patients who are not in their final year of training or those experiencing moderate to high risk of suicide will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the mental health and well-being of future teachers, helping them manage stress and reduce the risk of anxiety and depression.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise with mindfulness-based interventions for mental health, suggesting potential success for this approach in pre-service teacher training.
