What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a mindful self-compassion intervention for women experiencing homelessness who are dealing with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorder (SUD). The approach combines mindful self-compassion techniques with standard treatment practices to address the complex interplay of trauma, mental health, and substance use. Participants will be women aged 18 and over who have experienced homelessness and exhibit symptoms of PTSD. The study seeks to provide a low-cost, complementary intervention to improve mental health outcomes and reduce substance use among this vulnerable population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women aged 18 and over who have experienced homelessness and exhibit probable PTSD symptoms.
Not a fit: Patients who do not speak English or have cognitive impairments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve mental health and reduce substance use among unhoused women suffering from PTSD.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using mindfulness-based interventions for PTSD and substance use, suggesting potential success for this approach.
