What this trial studies
This study investigates the impact of mentor-mentee relationships on cardiovascular health among undergraduate students and elementary school students from Chicago Public Schools. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a mentoring group or a comparison group that receives written materials. Cardiovascular health measures will be assessed at baseline and after the intervention, which consists of weekly mentoring sessions throughout the school year. The study aims to explore whether these interpersonal relationships can lead to improved health outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include undergraduate students willing to serve as mentors and Chicago Public School students who will be mentees.
Not a fit: Patients who are not enrolled in undergraduate programs or are not part of the Chicago Public School system may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance cardiovascular health in both mentors and mentees through improved social support and engagement.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of mentoring for cardiovascular health is novel, similar studies have shown positive outcomes in other health-related areas through mentorship.
