Laryngoscope Force During Suspension for Adenotonsillectomy
McGill University Health Centre/Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre · NCT06115798

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the relationship between force metrics during suspension laryngoscopy and postoperative pain in children undergoing adenotonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, or tonsillectomy. The study will monitor the force applied during the procedure to determine its impact on complications such as pain and opioid requirements. By investigating these metrics in the pediatric population, the researchers hope to provide insights that could improve surgical outcomes and reduce postoperative complications.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 18 years or younger who are scheduled for adenotonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, or tonsillectomy.
Not a fit: Patients with contraindications to suspension laryngoscopy or those whose guardians refuse participation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management of postoperative pain and reduced complications in children undergoing throat surgeries.
How similar studies have performed: While studies have shown the importance of force metrics in adult populations, this specific approach in the pediatric demographic is novel and has not been previously tested.
