What this trial studies

This observational study focuses on patients with minor burns treated in an outpatient clinic and ICU survivors who are at risk of malnutrition. It aims to measure their resting energy expenditure using indirect calorimetry, a method that assesses energy needs without invasive procedures. By gathering data on energy requirements, the study seeks to establish clearer guidelines for nutritional support in these vulnerable populations.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals with minor burns treated in an outpatient setting or ICU survivors who have been discharged after at least 7 days.

Not a fit: Patients who are on oxygen supply, have chest drainage, are not French speaking, or have cognitive disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved nutritional management and outcomes for patients at risk of malnutrition.

How similar studies have performed: While there may be existing studies on calorimetry, this specific approach focusing on burn patients and ICU survivors is relatively novel.
