What this trial studies
Women aged 18–29 who meet sedentary criteria will be assigned to either an 8-week mat Pilates exercise group (n=27) or a control group (n=27). The Pilates group will follow a supervised mat Pilates training program while control participants continue their usual activities. Researchers will collect socio-demographic information and measure body awareness with the Body Awareness Questionnaire and physical activity using the Tegner scale and the short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) before and after the program. Group outcomes will be compared to determine whether mat Pilates changes body awareness or activity levels.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Turkish-speaking women aged 18–29 with a sedentary lifestyle (IPAQ <600 MET-min/week), no regular exercise for the prior two months, cognitive ability to complete questionnaires, and body weight under 130 kg.
Not a fit: Women with chronic neurological, orthopedic, rheumatic, pulmonary, cardiovascular, kidney or liver disease, recent fractures, pregnancy, a history of malignancy, vestibular disorders, or who already exercise regularly are unlikely to benefit or are excluded.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, mat Pilates could increase body awareness and physical activity in sedentary young women, with possible benefits for posture and overall well-being.
How similar studies have performed: Prior research indicates Pilates can improve posture, core strength, and body awareness in some groups, but high-quality evidence specifically in sedentary emerging-adult women is limited.
