What this trial studies

This observational study conducted by the Georgetown University Memory Disorders Program aims to assess the feasibility of various diagnostic tests for Alzheimer's disease, mild cognitive impairment, and other neurodegenerative diseases. Participants will undergo cognitive assessments, lifestyle questionnaires, and provide blood and cerebrospinal fluid specimens for biochemical and genetic testing. The study includes both a main study with a single visit and an optional longitudinal substudy involving annual follow-ups. The findings will not be shared with participants, focusing instead on the research aspect of diagnosis.

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 45 and older, particularly those with a family history of neurodegenerative diseases.

Not a fit: Patients under 45 years of age will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the early diagnosis of Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases, leading to better management and treatment options.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using biochemical and genetic testing for diagnosing neurodegenerative diseases, indicating potential success for this approach.
