What this trial studies

This observational study aims to establish a cohort of community patients diagnosed with schizophrenia to monitor their mental health throughout their life cycle. It will create a biobank to track disease recurrences, violent behaviors, and other significant outcomes over time. The study will also explore the predictive effects of various biological, psychosocial, and imaging indicators on patient outcomes. By focusing on long-term follow-up, this research seeks to fill the gap in existing studies that primarily rely on cross-sectional data.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 18 years or older who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia within the last five years and are registered in the Shanghai Mental Health Information Management System.

Not a fit: Patients with severe physical diseases or organic brain diseases, as well as those planning to relocate outside of Shanghai, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the long-term management and treatment of schizophrenia, potentially improving patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been many studies on schizophrenia, this long-term cohort approach focusing on community patients is relatively novel and may provide new insights.
