What this trial studies
The PICASSO project is an observational cohort study designed to facilitate future research in psoriasis by creating a comprehensive biobank. Patients with recent onset psoriasis, defined as having the condition for less than three years, will be enrolled and followed for a decade with scheduled visits every 2.5 years. The study will collect extensive data on patient demographics, medical history, treatment details, and disease activity, while also performing biosampling for various analyses, including metabolomics and mRNA expression. The goal is to improve understanding of disease evolution and identify markers that may predict severe disease outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults and children aged 12 years and older who have had clinical signs of psoriasis for less than three years.
Not a fit: Patients who have had psoriasis for more than three years or are unable to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better patient stratification and improved understanding of psoriasis, potentially enhancing treatment outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in utilizing biobanks for chronic conditions, making this approach promising for psoriasis research.
