What this trial studies

This observational study aims to extend the follow-up of participants from the original TESTING study to evaluate the long-term effects of a 6-9 month course of oral methylprednisolone on end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). It will assess outcomes based on different doses of the medication, ethnicity, and kidney function levels. The study seeks to determine whether the benefits of glucocorticoids are sustained over time and if a lower steroid dose can provide similar long-term kidney health benefits. Participants will be monitored for clinically important renal outcomes, including ESKD and changes in kidney function.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals who participated in the original TESTING trial and have not reached kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplantation.

Not a fit: Patients who have already reached kidney failure or have died during the original TESTING trial will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the long-term management of kidney diseases and the effectiveness of steroid treatments.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with glucocorticoid treatments in kidney disease, but this specific long-term follow-up approach is novel.
