What this trial studies

The LIFE-TB study is a nationwide, multicenter observational cohort aimed at understanding the long-term impacts of tuberculosis on lung health and quality of life in adults. Participants, aged 19 and older, will be enrolled if they are currently undergoing treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis or have a history of treated TB. Over a five-year follow-up period, the study will collect data on respiratory symptoms, radiological changes, pulmonary function, and quality of life through various assessments. This research seeks to establish a comprehensive post-TB lung disease registry in Korea.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 19 and older who are currently being treated for pulmonary tuberculosis or have a history of treated TB.

Not a fit: Patients with extrapulmonary TB without lung involvement or those under 19 years of age may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the long-term health consequences of tuberculosis, potentially leading to improved management strategies for post-TB lung disease.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in understanding post-TB lung disease, but this specific nationwide registry approach is relatively novel.
