What this trial studies

This is a single-center observational registry enrolling patients admitted to Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo with diagnoses such as bacterial or viral meningitis, encephalitis, brain abscess, or post‑neurosurgical meningitis. Clinical data, laboratory and imaging results, treatments, and short-term outcomes will be recorded in a standardized database. No experimental interventions are given as part of the registry; data will be used to describe local epidemiology, diagnostic timing, management patterns, and outcomes. The collected information may support quality improvement and future research projects, including multicenter collaborations.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Patients admitted to Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo with a confirmed or suspected central nervous system infection (for example bacterial or viral meningitis, encephalitis, brain abscess, or post‑neurosurgical meningitis).

Not a fit: People who are not treated at this hospital or whose condition is non‑infectious or already fully resolved before admission are unlikely to receive direct benefit from participating.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the registry could help clinicians recognize common presentations and treatment patterns more quickly, leading to faster diagnosis and better-informed care for future patients.

How similar studies have performed: Similar single‑center and multicenter registries and surveillance programs for CNS infections have improved understanding of epidemiology and management, though prospective high‑quality registry data remain relatively limited.
