Link between sinusitis and age-related macular degeneration
Detection and Management of Sinusitis in a Single-center Prospective Cohort of Patients With Exudative AMD (SINE)

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the relationship between sinusitis and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by assessing patients with exudative AMD at the Fondation Adolphe de Rothschild Hospital. The study will involve screening for sinusitis in patients who have been treated for bilateral neovascular AMD for at least two years. Investigators will evaluate whether treating sinusitis may lead to a reduction in the need for anti-VEGF injections, suggesting a potential inflammatory link between the two conditions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with bilateral neovascular AMD who have received multiple intravitreal injections in the past year.
Not a fit: Patients with severe myopia, those already treated for sinusitis, or with specific retinal conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for patients with AMD by addressing underlying sinusitis.
How similar studies have performed: While the link between sinusitis and AMD is being explored, this specific approach is novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
