Length of hospital stay for people recovering from stroke
Evaluation of the Factors Affecting the Length of Hospitalisation of Patients In Stroke Rehabilitation
This project will measure how long adults recovering from ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke stay in inpatient rehabilitation at Etlik City Hospital and compare those who leave sooner versus later than the average.

What this trial studies
This is an observational analysis of inpatient rehabilitation stays at Ankara Etlik City Hospital to determine the average length of hospitalization since the hospital opened and to identify when functional recovery appears to plateau. Adult patients with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke within the past two years will be included, while patients or carers with major cognitive or psychological impairment, voluntary early discharges, or transfers will be excluded. Patients will be split into two groups based on whether their stay is shorter or longer than the calculated average, and clinical and administrative factors associated with plateau and discharge timing will be recorded. No experimental treatments will be given; the aim is to generate data to inform discharge planning and potential program modifications.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (age ≥18) hospitalized for ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke within the last two years at Etlik City Hospital who and whose carers consent and do not have major cognitive or psychological impairment.
Not a fit: Patients with significant cognitive or psychological impairment, those who leave or are transferred before completing treatment, or people treated outside Etlik City Hospital are unlikely to benefit from this analysis.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help clinicians time discharges better and tailor rehabilitation to reduce unnecessary inpatient days.
How similar studies have performed: Previous observational studies have described length of stay and plateau in stroke rehabilitation and produced useful descriptive findings, but no single definition or practice-changing intervention has emerged universally.
