What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of laparoscopic splenectomy and azygoportal disconnection on immune function in patients with liver cirrhosis. Patients diagnosed with cirrhosis and experiencing splenomegaly will undergo the surgical procedure, followed by a standardized treatment plan and monitoring of immune-related indicators at various intervals post-surgery. The goal is to determine if this surgical intervention can enhance immune function and improve overall patient prognosis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with cirrhosis, splenomegaly, and gastroesophageal variceal bleeding who can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, severe liver dysfunction (Child-Pugh grade C), or other significant health issues may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance immune function in cirrhosis patients, potentially leading to better health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While similar surgical approaches have been explored, this specific combination of procedures and its impact on immune function in cirrhosis patients is relatively novel.
