Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy With Transrectal Specimen Extraction for Colon Cancer

Not applicable Interventional National Cancer Center, China · NCT06362902

What this trial studies

This study investigates the surgical outcomes of laparoscopic right hemicolectomy combined with transrectal specimen extraction for patients with right colon cancer. It is a prospective single-arm clinical study involving 37 patients, aiming to assess postoperative complications and other factors such as operating time and quality of life. The primary hypothesis is that this innovative approach, known as natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES), can lead to fewer complications compared to traditional methods.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with biopsy-proven colon carcinoma located in the cecum, ascending colon, or colonic hepatic flexure, with a tumor diameter of 5 cm or less.

Not a fit: Patients with complete intestinal obstruction, significant organ dysfunction, or other severe medical conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved surgical outcomes and reduced complications for patients undergoing surgery for right colon cancer.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies exploring natural orifice specimen extraction have shown promising results, indicating potential for success.
