What this trial studies

This is an observational study recruiting healthy female university students with primary dysmenorrhea to measure knee joint position sense, pain, and dynamic balance without any intervention. Eligible participants are virgin females aged 18–25 with regular menstrual cycles and a BMI of 18–24.9 kg/m2, and those with prior knee/spine injury, vestibular disease, pelvic pathology, or neuromuscular disorders are excluded. Measurements will be taken during relevant menstrual phases using standardized proprioception and balance tests alongside pain rating scales. All testing is conducted at Cairo University and is intended to generate evidence for physical therapy considerations.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Healthy, virgin female students aged 18–25 with regular menstrual cycles, primary dysmenorrhea, BMI 18–24.9 kg/m2, and a mild activity level are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Women with secondary pelvic pathology, a history of knee or spinal injury or surgery, vestibular or inner ear disorders, neuromuscular disease, cognitive deficits, or those outside the age/BMI/activity ranges are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the results could help physical therapists understand whether menstrual pain is linked to altered knee proprioception or balance and guide targeted prevention or therapy.

How similar studies have performed: There is limited prior research linking primary dysmenorrhea specifically to knee proprioception and dynamic balance, so this approach is relatively novel rather than widely validated.
