What this trial studies

This observational project will measure joint status, postural balance, fall history, and health-related quality of life in adults with severe hemophilia A. Eligible participants (age ≥18) with a Hemophilia Joint Health Score (HJHS) single-joint score ≥3 in the knee or ankle will undergo clinical joint exams, standardized balance tests, and validated QoL questionnaires at Van Yuzuncu Yil University. People who use walking aids or who have neurological/psychiatric disorders, chronic inflammatory disease, regular use of medications that affect balance, or recent major lower-extremity surgery are excluded. The study describes associations among arthropathy severity, balance impairment, and daily functioning rather than testing a medical treatment.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (≥18) with severe hemophilia A and at least mild knee or ankle joint damage (HJHS single-joint score ≥3) who do not use walking aids are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People who use walking aids, have neurological or psychiatric disorders, chronic inflammatory disease, take medications that affect balance, or recently had major lower-extremity surgery are unlikely to qualify or gain direct benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: Findings could help identify patients at higher risk of falls or poor function so clinicians can target rehabilitation and fall-prevention strategies.

How similar studies have performed: Previous observational studies have linked hemophilic arthropathy to reduced mobility and quality of life, but few have specifically examined postural balance and falls in this population.
