What this trial studies
People without a functioning spleen face a lifelong higher risk of serious infections, and preventive measures include vaccination, antibiotic prophylaxis, and patient education. This study uses a modified Delphi consensus method with a multidisciplinary panel of Italian-speaking healthcare professionals to create and refine questionnaire items about awareness, knowledge of prevention strategies, and vaccination attitudes for splenectomized individuals. After a literature scoping review produces draft items, two online Delphi rounds will ask experts to rate each item's relevance and clarity on structured Likert scales, retaining items that meet predefined consensus thresholds. The final Italian-language questionnaire will be composed only of items that achieved expert agreement and will support future research and quality-improvement work on preventive care for asplenic patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: The study recruits Italian-native healthcare professionals at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS with clinical experience in vaccination, infection prevention, and care of patients with asplenia to serve on the Delphi expert panel.
Not a fit: Because the project only develops an expert-consensus questionnaire and does not enroll patients for interventions, participants will not receive direct clinical benefit and people with a functioning spleen are unlikely to benefit from this specific work.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the questionnaire could identify gaps in patient knowledge and guide targeted education and vaccination efforts to reduce infection risk in people without a spleen.
How similar studies have performed: Delphi consensus methods are widely used and have successfully produced validated questionnaires in vaccination, infection prevention, and other clinical areas.
Eligibility criteria
