What this trial studies
This pilot study aims to gather feasibility and pilot data to inform a larger clinical trial focused on the impact of best practice hearing aid interventions on hearing-related outcomes in adults aged 55 to 75 years. The study will assess the effects of hearing aids on physical activity, socialization, and quality of life, while also exploring the relationship between hearing loss and cognitive fatigue. Participants will receive standard care hearing aids and will be monitored through in-office visits and activity tracking devices. The goal is to establish the feasibility of the intervention and collect preliminary data for future research.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 55 to 75 years with little or no prior experience using hearing aids.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to complete written questionnaires or have cognitive impairments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved hearing-related outcomes and quality of life for older adults with hearing loss.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is not entirely novel, it builds on existing knowledge about hearing aids and their potential benefits, and similar studies have shown promising results.
