Investigating Tinel's Sign for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Refining the Interpretation of the Tinel's Sign for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: An Electromyographic and Nerve Conduction Velocity Study

Observational Ahram Canadian University · NCT05969093

What this trial studies

This observational study examines the electromyographic (EMG) activity and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) of healthy individuals while performing the Tinel's Sign at various wrist positions. The goal is to determine which wrist position most effectively isolates median nerve activity. Conducted in a controlled laboratory setting, the study will involve 30 healthy adults aged 18-45 with no prior hand or wrist issues. Measurements will be taken using surface electrodes and standard NCV devices, with data analyzed to identify significant differences across wrist positions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy adults aged 18-45 with no history of hand or wrist pain or neurological disorders.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of hand or wrist pain, neurological or muscular disorders, or contraindications to EMG or NCV measurement may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the diagnostic accuracy for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome by refining the interpretation of Tinel's Sign.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored nerve conduction and EMG activity, this specific approach to refining Tinel's Sign interpretation is novel.
