Investigating the Role of Lymph Nodes in Lung Cancer with Pleural Invasion

Role of Intrapulmonary Lymph Nodes in Patients With NSCLC and Visceral Pleural Invasion

Observational Luzerner Kantonsspital · NCT05596578

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the significance of intrapulmonary lymph nodes in patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have visceral pleural invasion. It focuses on understanding whether the dissection of specific lymph nodes is necessary for accurate staging and treatment planning. The study will analyze samples from lymph node stations 12, 13, and 14 to assess their prognostic value. The research seeks to clarify the controversial impact of visceral pleural invasion on patient outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients undergoing anatomical resection for NSCLC tumors smaller than 3 cm with visceral pleural invasion.

Not a fit: Patients with prior lung cancer, advanced disease (pN2 or M1), or those who have undergone neoadjuvant treatment may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve staging accuracy and treatment strategies for patients with NSCLC, potentially leading to better outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the significance of lymph node dissection in NSCLC is debated, this specific approach to studying intrapulmonary lymph nodes is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
