Investigating the role of collateral circulation in stroke patients undergoing thrombectomy

Registrated Cohort Study on Thrombectomy for Stroke

Observational First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University · NCT04637074

What this trial studies

This observational cohort study aims to explore the relationship between baseline collateral circulation and various outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke who are candidates for mechanical thrombectomy. It will assess how the status of collateral circulation affects the likelihood of successful arterial occlusion opening, the degree of reperfusion achieved, the extent of tissue injury, and the level of clinical impairment. Patients will undergo CT perfusion imaging before and after the thrombectomy procedure to gather relevant data for analysis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 years and older who are experiencing an acute ischemic stroke and are eligible for mechanical thrombectomy within 24 hours of symptom onset.

Not a fit: Patients with contraindications to imaging with contrast agents or those who experience significant delays between imaging and thrombectomy may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of collateral circulation's impact on stroke outcomes, potentially leading to improved treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific focus on collateral circulation in this context may be novel, previous studies have indicated the importance of collateral circulation in stroke outcomes, suggesting potential for success.
