What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the role of angiogenesis, or blood vessel growth, in various dermatologic diseases such as port wine stains, hemangiomas, and psoriasis. Researchers will analyze biospecimens, including skin tissue samples, to identify pro-angiogenic factors and their molecular pathways associated with these conditions. The study will utilize discarded skin tissue from surgical procedures and collect de-identified patient data to enhance understanding of angiogenesis in dermatologic diseases. Genetic analysis may also be performed on select specimens to further investigate underlying mechanisms.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 16 years and older who are willing to undergo a skin biopsy.
Not a fit: Patients under 16 years of age or those unable to follow instructions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to new therapeutic targets for treating a range of dermatologic diseases.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, previous research has indicated that targeting angiogenesis can be beneficial in treating certain dermatologic conditions.
