Investigating the long-term effects of COVID-19 in children
Longterm Influence of Pediatric Long COVID Syndrome on the Neuropsychiatric Function, Social Function, Neuroimage, and Gut Microbiota
This study is testing the long-term effects of COVID-19 on children's brain health and mental well-being by looking at kids aged 6-18 who had the virus and comparing them to healthy peers.

What this trial studies
This observational study enrolls pediatric patients aged 6-18 who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 to assess the long-term effects of the virus, specifically focusing on neurological and psychiatric outcomes. Participants will undergo brain MRI and neuropsychiatric evaluations 4-6 months after their COVID-19 diagnosis, with a follow-up evaluation one year later for longitudinal analysis. Healthy age- and gender-matched participants will also be included for comparative purposes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 6-18 who have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of neuropsychiatric disorders or those with devices not allowed for MRI will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the long-term neurological and psychiatric impacts of COVID-19 in children, potentially guiding future treatment and management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While studies on long COVID are emerging, this specific focus on pediatric long COVID and its neurological effects is relatively novel.
