Investigating the impact of endocrine disruptors on thyroid cancer

Cross-sectional Case-control Study on the Role of Endocrine Disruptors in Thyroid Cancer

Observational Istituto Auxologico Italiano · NCT05747365

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the relationship between exposure to endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs) and the incidence of thyroid cancer. It will compare the levels of various EDCs, including PFAS and other categories like bisphenols and phthalates, in patients diagnosed with thyroid cancer against those without the diagnosis. The study will utilize advanced mass spectrometry techniques to ensure precise measurement of these chemicals in blood and urine samples. Additionally, it will assess how factors such as diet and personal care product usage relate to EDC concentrations.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults diagnosed with thyroid cancer within the last five years and matched controls without the diagnosis.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old or those unable to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of environmental factors contributing to thyroid cancer, potentially leading to better prevention strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between EDCs and various cancers has been explored, this specific investigation into thyroid cancer is relatively novel.
