Investigating the heart effects of influenza infection
Influenza and the Heart: An Investigation Into the Acute and Lasting Cardiac Effects of Influenza Infection
University Hospital, Gentofte, Copenhagen · NCT05084846

What this trial studies
This study aims to assess the acute and lasting cardiac effects of influenza infection in patients hospitalized with a confirmed diagnosis of influenza. By creating a prospective clinical cohort, the researchers will analyze the cardiovascular complications that may arise during and after the infection. The study will focus on understanding the mechanisms linking influenza to cardiovascular disease, providing valuable insights into patient care and management.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old who are hospitalized with a laboratory-confirmed diagnosis of influenza.
Not a fit: Patients who are unable to cooperate, cannot provide informed consent, are pregnant, or are simultaneously positive for COVID-19 may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of cardiovascular complications associated with influenza, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, previous research has indicated a connection between influenza and cardiovascular complications, suggesting potential for meaningful findings.
